My life from birth
Its been a very tiring day. I always work on my grandfather's farm but I had to also take care of my two younger siblings and clean our hut. My father has been ill all week leaving me as the only person to work and fend for the family. My name is Nyankoponwaa, but everyone calls me Ponwaa and I turned eight last two months. I was born to a poor family in the northern part of Ghana. I have two younger siblings: My younger sister, Akyachiwomaa who is six and my brother,Tenkyachofi who just turned three today. Our mother died after the birth of Chofi leaving us with our father to care for us. Our only possession is a small hut and a small farm not far from our hut, that used to be my mother's father's.
My sister Womaa and I are best friends. She helps me with cleaning the house and we even walk to school together. We wake up at 4am to clean the hut and start walking to school since our school is very far from our house. I like going to school to study, meet new people and make friends. My teachers are very fond of me since I am a good student. Womaa and I haven't been to school in a week because of my dad's illness. I worked harder this week especially today in order to buy a goat for my family. I want us to celebrate Chofi's birthday.
